We built a 3-storey home in just 3 days—here’s why that matters

At Sustainable I Architecture for a Healthy Planet we’re rethinking how homes are built—starting with one core belief: construction should be faster, smarter, and more sustainable. (…that’s 3 core beliefs… how about ‘We need more sustainable homes now!’ - starting with our core belief that homes should not only be built rapidly, and in quantity, but also with quality. In short, we should build more, faster, and better!

Our latest project in Toronto is proof of this concept. In collaboration with Simple Life Homes and Maxwell Developments, we completed (It’s not exactly complete – just the envelope) erected a framed, insulated, and clada fully custom, three-storey home in just three days. How? By using prefabrication—a process where major components of the house are built off-site in a controlled environment, then assembled on location like high-performance building blocks (or like a giant piece of Ikea furniture).

This method isn’t just fast—it’s energy-efficient, (is low-carbon better) low-waste, and highly precise. Working with Simple Life Homes allowed us to deliver an airtight, well-insulated structure with minimal carbon-footprint and disruption to the neighborhood and - with a dramatically reduced construction timeline.

Prefab construction is no longer a fringe idea—it’s a scalable solution to Canada’s housing challenges. It allows us to meet high performance standards, reduce carbon emissions, and deliver beautiful, functional homes in record time. More, faster, AND better!

At Sustainable, we're proud to help lead the charge toward a more sustainable future—one build at a time. Let’s now build more of these all at the same time!
